Moderator: Good evening everyone,
Welcome to today's chat
with ODU baseball Dan Hudson, Jimmy Miles and head
coach Jerry Meyers. |
| Larry (Norfolk): Dan,
How did you enjoy your experience
in the Cape? |
Dan Hudson: Had a great time up there. Anytime you can compete with
the best players in the country
that's always a plus. The atmosphere there for the games is outstanding. |
| Pat (Chesapeake): Jimmy,
Great to see you back. Best of luck this coming year. |
Jimmy Miles: Thank you so much. Look forward to seeing you at the games this year. I can't wait
to start playing. |
| Larry (Virginia Beach): Dan,
How has coach Meyers helped you
in your pitching development since
coming to ODU? |
Dan Hudson: When I got here, and after he
watched me a couple of times,
it didn't take him long to point
out some flaws in my mechanics. His biggest help is
telling me adjusments I need to make during each outing. |
| Mike (Norfolk): Jimmy,
what's the toughest place to play
in terms of the outfield?
Good luck this season. |
Jimmy Miles: I would say Hofstra is the toughest place to play because of the dimentions and they have both artificial
turf and grass there. |
| Bob (Norfolk): Dan,
Who is the hardest hitting team in
the CAA? |
Dan Hudson: Delaware has been able to hit
very well, along with UNCW and George Mason. |
| D. T. (Norfolk): My son and some of his little leage team mates are interested in being bat boys for ODU. Do you use bat boys and if so what is the age requirement and how do they sign up for orientation? |
Jerry Meyers: Thats a great idea and would love to do that. I am not sure
how much that has been done in the past. Please give our
athletic promotions director David Weisser a call at 683-3372. |
| Terry: Jerry,
We really enjoy what you have done
with the program. Congratulations
on being named pitching coach for
Team USA. |
Jerry Meyers: Thanks very much. It is quite
an honor. |
| Jerry, Newport News: 1)At the banquet you mentioned you are in the process of raising money for facility improvements. What improvements are in the future?
2) Do you like the the new NCAA rule for starting the season later (end of February vs first of February)?
3)Jimmy Miles - How do you think this team will measure up to the teams you were on your first three years?
4)Five games a week for the first nine weeks, how does the pitching look so far. |
Jerry Meyers: The hole project will include an
indoor hitting/pitching facility.,
along with exstenive renovation of the park which
will make a huge positive impact on the program. I think a lot of people will be able to answer this at the end of the year. I think the intention is good for college baseball in bringing some
parity to college baseball.
It definitely makes it more
difficult to script out your pitching for five games.
JIMMY MILES-I think it is hard to tell. We haven't played
any games, but I think things
look pretty good. |
| Karla (Suffolk): Jerry,
What is your best baseball memory
as a coach and what got you into
coaching? |
Jerry Meyers: I would say there are probably
several, but the first was beating Miami in the Super Regional Final to go to Omaha. Equaling that was playing Texas in the Championship game in 2002. |
| Marty in Richmond: Coach Myers I will see you and your troops in Charlottesville..I can't wait to see you guys play. |
Jerry Meyers: Thanks very much, look forward to seeing you. |
| Karen (Virginia Beach): Jerry,
Do you play everyone in the CAA in
three-game series?, and how is the
new season format going to dictate
your pitching and playing strategy?
Hope you guys have a great season. |
Jerry Meyers: Great question. We do play everyone in the CAA right now.
That format could change. |
| Ray -Columbia, SC: What is the projected weekend rotation? And midweek starters? |
Jerry Meyers: Hudson and Shawler should
be anchoring our rotation on
the weekend with the third
spot still up for grabs with a
few options. The midweek decisions will be week-to-week
in terms of starters. Managing
those games will be critical to
our conference weekend success. |
| Jim, Newport News: Coach, who do you think are the Big Dogs in the CAA this year. |
Jerry Meyers: Hopefully we are in the hunt
with who ever it may be at the
top. VCU returns several key
players along with Delaware
and UNCW. However the entire
league is very competitive with
no easy weekends. |
| Doug (Norfolk): Coach Meyers: What's the scouting report on Rutgers this year (first opponent)? |
Jerry Meyers: They lost five or six guys in
their lineup offensively, but have a very talented group
coming in. They do have significant experience coming
back on the mound and I am
sure they will be very competitive as they are every
year. |
Moderator: Everyone, thank you for your
questions. We hope to see all of you at the Bud beginning next weekend, Feb. 22nd against Rutgers, the defending BigEast champions. |
