 Head Coach Alan Dawson
CHAT LIVE WITH THE ODU SOCCER MONARCHS MONDAY AT 5:30

Chat live Monday, Sept 10 with men's soccer coach Alan Dawson and seniors David Horst and A.J. Kulp at 5:30 p.m.

Click on the live chat box and send in your questions about the season, the CAA race and the upcoming Stihl Soccer Classic.

Last year, the Monarchs made their fifth straight appearance in the NCAA College Cup and advanced to the round of 16 for the first time ever. Head coach Alan Dawson is in his 11th season as the Monarchs head coach, and is a four-time CAA Coach of the Year recipient. David Horst anchors the Monarchs defense and is one of 29 on the prestigious Hermann Award list, while Kulp was second on the team last year with four assists.

Moderator: good evening everyone and welcome to today's chat with coach dawson, and David Horst. AJ Kulp will not be with us as he has clas.

JLo (VB): David Horst, why do the players on the team call you "the show"?
David Horst: It all started with my roommates calling me that. I guess it started when one of my roommates was watching wwf wrestling and there was a huge wrestler called the Big Show".

Jay Chesapeake: What is the difference between last years defense/goaltending and this years? Comments in the Va Pilot say there was concern about who was going to take over scoring-are you worried about ODU's performance defensively?
Coach Dawson: We just need to be consistent and we have to make it a team defense with everyone chipping in. If we do that, then no I am not worried.

John (Newportnews): David, Did you play any other sports when you were growing up and What got you interested in Soccer?
David Horst: growing up I played basketball and soccer. I also ran track. My Parents got me interested in soccer as my mom coached my brother and sister, then I just followed and she ended up coaching me.

Bobby (Virginia Beach): Alan, Your facility addition is outstanding. It has got to help recruiting. Are there many programs that have their offices, practice facility, lockerroom and meeting rooms like what you have at ODU? Good luck this weekend.
Coach Dawson: We are really excited about this facility and should help us long range. There are a few other programs that have similar, but we certainly are among the elite. Thank you

Paul: A.J and David, what are your plans down the road after graduation?
David Horst: I took a lot of courses to be ready for the MLS combine, which is in January. So I will only need to finish a few classes. My priorty is to play professionally. I will be back to complete those courses I need.

Harry(Annapolis): Alan, What footballer did you follow growing up?
Coach Dawson: George Best, the greatest that ever played the game.

Terrance (Manteo, NC): This is for Horst and Kulp. What is the toughest place to play in the CAA?, outside of the ODU stadium.
David Horst: I would say JMU, it is always a battle up there and their stands are always filled.

Karen (Virginia Beach): Congratulations on the win over Penn State. You always play some of the best teams in the country. Are any of the previous four teams you have just played coming to ODU next year?
Coach Dawson: No, Penn State is on our schedule for the Stihl Classic in 2009. We are negotiating a game with both North CArolina and Maryland.

Tyler Chesapeake: When ODU starts it's football program, what plans do you have to compete for the student fan base?
Coach Dawson: We hope to gain a lot of new fans and a lot of momentum with the start of football. We will schedule around there games. Our Monarch Maniacs have been great as well as all of the ODU students.

Henry (Virginia Beach): Alan, It seems to be very tough for the college player to make it in the MLS. Do you think that is true and if so why?
Coach Dawson: There are only so many spots for both American players and international players. There are not that many teams, but it is like that all around the world, competing to earn a spot.

Kristen (Virginia Beach): David, What is the key to playing good defense and did it help having most of your defensive mates playing together this summer?
David Horst: Biggest key is just organization and knowing where my teammates are going to be. Playing this summer helped out a lot and gave us confidence to play better as a unit.

Donnie (Norfolk): Is the CAA tournament still the top six? Looking forward to finally watching the Monarchs this weekend.
Coach Dawson: YEs, the tournament format is still the same and again will be at the Virginia BEach Sportsplex. Looking forward to seeing here this weekend
Moderator: Monarch fans, thank you for your questions and hope to see you at the STihl SOccer Classic this weekend.
