ODU Sailing Season Concludes With 12th Place Effort at ICSA Semi-Finals
April 27, 2008 LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Old Dominion finished 12th at the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association National Western Semi-Final with a total of 286 points after 14 completed races. The Monarchs finished three spots out of the qualifying teams and conclude the 2007-08 season with the Semi-Final appearance. Both divisions finished 11th place and combined to finish 12th overall, 46 points behind the 9th and final qualifying spot. In A division, sophomore Kyle Rogachenko and junior Alissa Ayres finished with 139 total points. They were among the top ten finishers in nine of the 14 races, but had double-digit finishes in five of the final six races of the event. They were just nine points out of the top ten and 19 away from a 9th place effort. Junior Michael Brown was skipper of all but two races in B division, when senior team captain Michael Collins stepped in at the national semi-final. They both sailed with Jaci Finney as crew and combined for an 11th place finish with 147 total points. Brown and Finney scored a win and three top tens on the second day, but also suffered a disqualification in one race. In Collins' first career national championship appearance as a senior, he earned a top ten finish in the final race of the event. The 2007-08 co-ed sailing team finishes the spring season with five finishes in the top five of an event. The Monarchs will graduate just three seniors from this years squad as they will look to return to the ICSA Semi-Final next year.
