  Tommy Reichel
Tommy Reichel
Player Profile

The only player in Sun Belt Conference history to earn All-Conference honors four times was the Monarchs shortstop Tommy Reichel from 1983 to 1986.

The Arlington Heights, Ill., native was named first team All-Sun Belt three times and once to the second team. Reichel's play was very instrumental to the Monarchs being ranked three times during his four year career.

He completed his career at ODU as the school's all-time leader in runs scored with 217 and games played with 222. He ranks third in career base hits with 271, doubles with 51, total bases with 359 and stolen bases with 62. His 222 career games played was the second best in Sun Belt Conference history. In 1992 he still owned the school mark for assists by a shortstop with eight against Western Kentucky on May 14, 1985. That day, which was the Sun Belt Conference title game, ODU set the NCAA record of seven double plays in one game.

During his four-ear career Reichel hit over 300 three times, the best was a .378 average as a senior. As a junior, he stole 25 bases in 30 attempts. He also scored 72 times which was a school record until 1991.

He earned his degree in distributive education.
