Player Profile

One of the Norfolk Division's top all-around athletes, Joe Agee lettered in both baseball and basketball from 1948-50.

He played shortstop in baseball and captained the Braves basketball squad. He average 20.8 points per game during the 1949-50 season. He scored 34 points in the Norfolk Division's 70-43 victory over the Virginia Frosh and scored 20 or more points eight times that season. He scored 27 against the North Carolina Frosh and 26 against the Richmond Frosh and Navy Plebes.

Agee led the Braves baseball squad in homers with three, including the game winner against Richmond Professional Institute.

Agee was the first recipient of the"Bud Paul Scholarship" awarded in 1949.

"I was a local boy who made good with minimal talents. The Norfolk Division provided me some of the happiest moments of my life. It gave me a chance to attend college and play two sports for a great coach, Bud Metheny. It also enabled my father the opportunity to watch one of his four children compete in athletics."

After graduating from the Norfolk Division, Agee went to the college of William and Mary and was a member of the basketball team for two seasons. He is currently the Head Golf Coach at William and Mary where he coached three State medalists, captured the 1982 Virginia State Championships and the 1985 ECAC-South Championships.

Agee is a member of the William and Mary sports Hall of Fame. He was also a collegiate basketball official for many years.
