  Randy Leddy
Randy Leddy
Player Profile

Twenty years after he graduated from Old Dominion University, Randy Leddy still ranked as ODU's all-time rebounder with 1,153 recoveries and as the Monarch's 10th all-time scorer with 1,411 points.

Through the university's first 56 years, he is one of only three players to record more than 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.

When inducted into the ODU Sports Hall of Fame in 1986, Leddy also owned the school record for the highest per-game rebound average for a single season – 18.1. He achieved that level during the 1965-66 season.

Leddy was three times the Most Valuable Player on his team during four seasons as a Monarch.

Randy played his first three years under Coach Bud Metheny and his last season under Coach Sonny Allen. The combined record was 43-53, at a time when the Monarchs were moving into a growth period that lifted ODU into NCAA Division I.

A former Princess Anne High School star, Leddy majored in physical education at ODU and then taught in Norfolk while waiting for orders to navy flight school.

During the next 18 years, he moved upward in Navy ranks to commander and an assignment as executive officer of VT-4, a training squadron at Pensacola, Fla. His Navy experience includes being a member of an F-14 fighter squadron operating from the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz when two Libyan pilots opened fire in 1981 and were shot down. He has made several Mediterranean deployments that have included operations related to the Iranian hostages and crises involving Lebanon, Cyprus and Jordan.

"It is a great feeling to be in the ODU Sports Hall of Fame with some people that I think a lot of," Leddy said when he was selected.
