George Consolvo

Player Profile

George Consolvo stroked his way to a four-season 43-17 record while playing against number one singles competitors during the 1964 through 1967 seasons with Old Dominion University.

The NCAA Eastern Region College Division singles champion in 1966 and 1967, he was team MVP during those years. In addition, he earned the Tom Scott Award in 1967, as well as the WTAR Award given to the athlete with the highest academic average in 1967.

His college playing career, which included number one doubles competition, began in 1964 when he was a freshman seasoned by the rivalries enjoyed by the Maury High School varsity tennis team from 1960 through 1963.

Since graduating, he has participated in ODU athletic and alumni fund raising and also competed in several alumni tennis tournaments.

Consolvo graduated from ODU in 1967 with a degree in English and spent four years in the Army. While moving up to the rank of captain, the field artillery specialist served in Vietnam and earned two Bronze Stars and two Army Commendation Medals.

He earned a law degree from the University of Richmond in 1974, and received the Charles T. Norman Medal given to the most outstanding law school graduate. He also was a member of the McNeill Law Society, executive editor of the University of Richmond Law Review, and a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa Society. He also was named to "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities."

When selected to the ODU Sports Hall of Fame in 1986, Consolvo was a partner in a Norfolk law firm specializing in tax-exempt finance.
