NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion field hockey head coach Beth Anders, the CAA Coach of the Year, who led the Lady Monarchs to the their 27th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance was named the 2007 VaSID Coach of the Year.

A total of six Lady Monarchs were named to the All-State Teams with senior Jo Ann van Aswegen (Bloemfontain, South Africa), junior Katelyn Smither (Suffolk, Va.), and sophomore Titia Beek (Heiloo, Holland) earning first team honors and senior Sami McLenegan (Middletown, Pa.) and sophomores Kelly Driscoll (West Chester, Pa.) and Katie Ueberroth (Stevens, Pa.) named to the second team.

Van Aswegen was a member of the First Team All-CAA squad and was named Preseason CAA Player of the Year. She was seventh on the team in scoring with eight points and third on the team in assists (4). Van Aswegen serves as the primary inserter on penalty corners. She captured goals against two-time defending national champion Maryland and Radford and collected assists against #3 Connecticut, #7 Penn State, #8 Virginia, and Towson.

Smither was a First Team All-CAA member who was fifth on the team in scoring and tied for third on the team in goals. She was a vital part of the defensive unit which collected eight shutouts this season - #10 Duke, Northeastern, Towson, #18 Delaware, Hofstra, Drexel, William & Mary, and Northeastern in the CAA Tournament. Smither was also the primary striker on penalty corners. She captured goals against #8 Virginia, Radford, Towson, Hofstra, and William & Mary, and posted assists against Towson, Drexel, William & Mary, and Northeastern in the CAA Tournament.

Beek was a Second Team All-American by Women's Field Hockey.Com and a First Team All-CAA selection. She ranked 18th nationally in assists per game and lead the CAA and Lady Monarchs in the category. Beek tied for ninth in the CAA in points per game (1.18). She was second on the ODU squad in points and tied for second on the team in goals. Her game-winning goals came against #8 Virginia and Va. Commonwealth on a penalty stroke in overtime. She posted a career-high two assists at #8 James Madison, #15 Michigan, and William & Mary. Beek also served as the primary stick-stop on penalty corners.

McLenegan was part of the defensive unit which has collected eight shutouts this season - #10 Duke, Northeastern, Towson, #18 Delaware, Hofstra, Drexel, William & Mary, and Northeastern in the CAA Tournament. She was second in the CAA in defensive saves, including a career-high two defensive saves against two-time defending national champion Maryland. Other defensive saves by McLenegan came against #1 North Carolina, #8 Virginia, #8 James Madison, #10 Duke, and Va. Commonwealth.

Ueberroth was seventh in the CAA in points per game and tied for eighth in the CAA in goals per game. Among her teammates she was first on the team in points, tied for the lead in goals, and second on the team in assists. Ueberroth recorded game-winners against #10 Duke and Towson and also scored two goals against Radford. Her other tallies came against #15 Michigan, Towson, and William & Mary.

Driscoll, a First Team All-CAA selection, led the CAA in saves, saves per game, and shutouts. She was second in the conference in save percentage and ranked third in the CAA in goals against average. Dricoll recorded shutouts against #10 Duke, Northeastern, Towson, #18 Delaware, Hofstra, Drexel, William & Mary, and Northeastern in the CAA Tournament. She made a career-high 13 saves in both games against top-ranked North Carolina.

Old Dominion, which faced the seventh-toughest schedule in the nation, finished the 2007 campaign with an 12-10 record.
