ODU Rowing Signs First Coxswain

Norfolk, Va. - Carissa Renfro of Storrs, Connecticut has signed a National Letter of Intent to be the first coxswain for the Old Dominion University rowing team, as announced by crew coach Heather Weisel. The Lady Monarchs will begin competing in the fall of 2008. Renfro brings with her three years of coxing experience at E.O. Smith High School in Storrs where under the guidance of Coach Sean Fisher, she helped the Panthers to an undefeated season and a girl's novice 8 state championship in the spring if this year. "We are thrilled that Carissa has accepted our offer," added the Lady Monarchs head coach. "She has a deep and flexible background as a coxswain and a positive personality that is a requirement in all of our first-year team members. These first few years are going to be about focusing on developing the competitive nature of the program. Carissa has the coxing credits that demonstrate her critical decision making skills and the leadership abilities we need to create a national caliber training and racing environment."
