VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Colonial Athletic Association released the 2007 All-CAA Women's Soccer teams Thursday night as three Lady Monarchs were honored. Senior forward Lisa McKenzie (Inverness, Scotland) and junior midfielder Caroline Brown (Lansdale, Pa.) were both named to the All-CAA Third Team, while freshman midfielder Ashley Kukura (Virginia Beach, Va.) was named to the All-Rookie Team. William & Mary's Claire Zimmeck and Hofstra's Sue Weber repeated as the CAA Player of the Year and Defender of the Year respectively, as JMU's Cate Tisinger took Rookie of the Year and her coach Dave Lombardo was named Coach of the Year.
McKenzie was tied for team lead in goals as she set a new career high with six. She also added an assist in her final year while she co-captained the Lady Monarchs with fellow senior Beth Messier. McKenzie knocked home three of her goals in conference play, including two game-winners. One of her game-winners came against VCU with one second remaining in double overtime.
The senior concludes her career among the ODU all-time leaders in goals, assists and points. She is tied for sixth all-time in points with 43, tied for 7th all-time in goals with 17, and has sole possession of 7th all-time in assists with 11.
Caroline Brown, a junior midfielder from Pennsylvania, joins her on the All-CAA Third Team. Brown was one of the most consistent Lady Monarchs all season, and rarely left the field of play, especially in CAA action. She had one goal and two assists during the year and was a force in the middle of the field on defense. She started every game for ODU this season.
Ashley Kukura, a true freshman from Virginia Beach, is the third Lady Monarch in as many years to be named to the conference All-Rookie squad.
Dani Hammer was named to the team a year ago and
Janna Pearson earned the honor her freshman season.
Kukura started 12 games as a newcomer and played in all 17 for head coach Joe Pereira. She became an essential element to the ODU offense, as much of the attack ran through her in the defensive midfield position. She showed impressive ball control against some of the conference's top defenders and often created shot opportunities for the Lady Monarchs.
She had one goal and four assists for six points on the season. She had two assists in conference play, coming against James Madison and VCU.
Old Dominion finished the season with a 7-8-2 mark overall, and a 3-7-1 CAA record.
